WHY FOODIES SHOULD VENTURE OUT TO PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
Prince Edward County is all about the local food, wine, and art scene. Below is our current list of favorite restaurants and cafes, and a couple that we are dying to try. We organized them by area so you can easily plan your day trip.
TOP RESTAURANTS AND FOOD TRUCKS IN PICTON, PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
The Maran’s Dinebar
Sourced locally, open kitchen, very few tables. Far and away the best charcuterie board I’ve ever had (Board of Indecision), great daily soup, and pork carnitas. Paired with a glass of Closson Chase Pinot Noir for me and a Stock & Row Cider for Patrick it was a lovely dinner. You can also try Bantam PEC and Auverre by The Marans located in Picton and at Closson Chase Vineyards respectively.
We stopped in for the plants, and stayed for the sandwiches. The sandwich combinations are creative and the space- long tables under a sun shade- was perfect with kids. They also happened to have Alpacas visiting for the summer, and the kids absolutely loved learning about them.
Harry’s Charbroiled
This is where you want to be in Spring 2022 when their new PEC location opens. Famous for slinging the best burgers and fries in the county, Harry’s has had a food truck out in Waupoos previously but is opening a bricks and mortar location in Picton for 2022.
TOP RESTAURANTS IN BLOOMFIELD, PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
Bloomfield Public House | 257 Bloomfield Main Street, Bloomfield, ON, K0K 1G0, Canada
Bloomfield Public House is now Bloomfield Public House Market. They’ve gone through a few iterations during the pandemic but are back to offering dine-in options – yay! Check out their outdoor kitchen offerings at Slake Brewery (new for 2022).
Flame & Smith | 106 Bloomfield Main Street, Bloomfield, ON K0K 1G0
First spot on our list to try next summer. I’m thinking anniversary dinner vibes! This is one spot we likely won’t bring the kiddos, more of an upscale date night dining experience.
TOP RESTAURANTS AND CAFES IN WELLINGTON, PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
The Drake Devonshire | 24 Wharf St, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0, Canada
A tried and tested favourite. You’ll find us ordering the Eggs Benedict, or the Drake Burger with fancy fries. They cater to both small and large parties, in the dining room and on the patio. We love to sit in the windows overlooking the lake. Their coffee is decent, and their staff is lovely and helpful. This is a popular place for intimate weddings and elopements, bachelorette parties and celebrations of all shapes and sizes. The design aesthetic is top notch. For elopement inspiration check out Romantic Elopement at The Drake Devonshire.
Enid Grace Cafe (now known as Piccolina Mercato)
Handmade pastries, sandwiches and desserts. Make sure you have plenty of time to wait in line or get there extra early. Enid Grace serves traditional Italian style coffee, so not our favourite (we prefer specialty coffee and will often pop over to Oak Surf Club– see all our coffee recommendations in Prince Edward County here) but the baked goods are stellar.
La Condesa | 298 Wellington Main Street, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0
The place for Mexican. Yes you will want to order everything, and this is highly recommended.
Koenji PEC | 287 Wellington Main Street, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0
Opened in 2022, this Japanese whisky bar is the perfect place for an evening out with your lover or friends. Right across the street from La Condesa (above) so yes, perfect for a nightcap after dinner.
Idle Wild PEC | 303 Wellington Main St, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0, Canada
Check their fb page for updated weekly menus, then order your take-out or sit on the patio. Local favourites include Pork and Wild Leek Dumplings and the Ginger Chicken – yum.
Stella’s prepares comfort food inspired by fresh and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers, and suppliers. The menu is constantly evolving and no substitutions are offered. Peruse the menu and try it all, sharing family – syle is encouraged – seriously, it’s that good.
MUST VISIT FOR FOODIES VISITING PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
Special mention goes out to Jamie Kennedy Fries, this is the hidden gem of the Prince Edward County food scene. We stumbled upon J.K. Fries after a beautiful morning at North Beach Provincial Park. We were very hungry and not looking forward to the drive back into Belleville so we took a chance and popped out to the J.K. Farm as it opened at 11 AM. Luckily it was empty (and it’s all outdoors so no pandemic problems) and the food was incredible. I am happy to report that we returned to J.K. Fries several times, pretty much any time anyone came to visit us, and it was equally delicious at each visit. He offers fries, poutine, and seasonal beverages. The rhubarb spritz was perfection. J.K. Fries is closed for the winter season but reopens in May.
